Competition helps with the ‘inspire’ part: the pressure to perform pushes you to train harder; the social boost of dozens of your best friends cheering for you will help you reach a higher plane. Heck, watching your teammates GO is inspiring.
Every year, CrossFit HQ runs an event called “The CrossFit Open“. As always, we take the idea and make it our own. We’re not interested in finding out how fast you can exercise against 400,000 other people worldwide. We ARE interested in helping you push to new levels in fitness, level up your life, and get 1000 high fives from the Thrive family.
Can we bring that worldwide thrill home? Can we deliver all the fun of competition without causing any anxiety attacks? We think so.
The Intramural Open is a new annual tradition we are starting at Thrive Fitness after being inspired by thousands of other gyms worldwide.
HOW IT WORKS
We’ll divide you up into three or four teams, each with a Team Captain and a funny name like “Flex Appeal” or “Hakuna Masquata”. We will choose the captains. You can earn points for your team by participating, winning an event, and showing the most spirit during events. After three weeks of intense, novel workouts, we’ll reveal the Mystery Event four. The mystery event could be a workout or it could be a flip cup tournament….only time will tell!
THE DRAFT
On Draft Day, you’ll be invited to watch your name be pulled from a hat. Unlike elementary school, EVERYONE GETS PICKED. Then, the Captains work hard to get you to participate in the best, most FUN event at Thrive.
Yep, we chose the FUN bunch to Captain, not our traditional top scorers. We want 100% participation this year. We have plans regardless of what this pandemic is going to throw our way!

POINTS
+1-2 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout each week during the class times earns one point. If you come to our weekly get together and complete the workout you will get 2 points.
Weekly Get Togethers
- Week 1: Thirsty Thursday, Feb 24th @ 6pm
- We will be hosting our first weekly get together the NIGHT they announce it. To start us off we will be having a show down of Michelle vs Joel followed by all others who want to participate in the workout that night.
- Week 2: Suffer Saturday, March 5th @ 9a-11am
- Join us on Saturday from 9-11 for our Suffer Saturday Open workout #2. We all know it can’t be a Suffer Saturday without mimosas so come ready to have one after your workout!
- Week 3: Friday Night Lights, March 11th @ 6pm
- Good ol’ classic Friday night lights on March 11th. Start time will be 6pm and once the workout is done we will be going to MRI for a fun happy hour!
- Week 4: Sunday Funday, March 20th @ 9:30am
- We are finishing out our 1st Annual Intramural Open with a FUNDAY. Get ready for this because it won’t be your average open workout planned. 😈
+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at Thrive for each workout in their division gets an extra point for their team.

WORKOUTS
In 2022, our Intramural Open will have 3 workouts; with a BONUS event planned, which may take place at any time DURING the four weeks or up until a week after the last.
We’ll complete the Open workouts during Group Fitness class time on Fridays (except the week of March 5th it will be on Saturday). Reserve your spot and show up on Friday to participate. Your membership gets you into the event (they’re just like regular workouts, but more challenging and fun.) The forth event will be a freebie for anyone registered on any Intramural team.
PREPARATION
For some of our members, the Open is an annual measuring stick to test their improvements in fitness.
Our programming will make a slight shift for the next few weeks to get you READY for the demands of the five-week competition!
We’re working on specialty programs available for those who want to improve one or two specific skills, too. In the meantime, if you’re dying to get your first toes-to-bars, or link your pull-ups, tell your coach and book a goal review! We’ll get you some 1:1 time!

We’ll have some random draws each week for prizes.

The top team will be immortalized with their names on a banner hanging in the gym.
Our focus is on FUN. We want you to participate because it will make you fitter, and you’ll be happy and love life more, and glow and stuff.
